Mitsubishi produced its first car in the year 1917 and kicked off what would become a legacy for quality and affordability. Today, the Mitsubishi brand holds firm on its values of provided more car for less money. 100 years of Mitsubishi didn’t come easy. In fact, looking back, it must have been one wild ride.
Mitsubishi was originally founded in 1870 as a shipping company. It wasn’t long before the company began to expand to other markets. Mitsubishi trademarked its three-diamond insignia in 1914. Just three years later, in 1917, the Model-A passenger car was introduced to the public.
That single model didn’t see much in the way of sales, but it did pave the way for the brand’s vehicular history. In 1937, Mitsubishi produced a prototype four-wheel drive passenger car designed for military use.
A major holding point for Mitsubishi is its quality engine design. Other automakers, such as Jeep, have even recognized the Japanese brand’s prowess when it comes to engineering. In 1954, Mitsubishi began production of a four-cylinder engine for Jeep.
Mitsubishi Motors Corporation was officially established in 1970. From there, the automaker would go on to develop legendary models, such as the Lancer and Galant.
We here at JBA Mitsubishi are happy to be a part of such a well-known brand’s past, present, and future!
