There is no denying the ever-increasing popularity of hybrid and electric vehicles on American roads. One of the newest plug-in hybrid options is the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. It was just introduced in 2018 and is already getting an upgrade. For the 2019 model year, the Outlander PHEV’s battery life gets a 10 percent increase.
Mitsubishi is swapping out the current 2.0-liter engine for a new 2.4-liter Atkinson Cycle inline four-cylinder. This engine will be paired with a dual electric motor at each axle and a 13.8 kWh battery pack. This combination will deliver an estimated electric driving range of 28 miles, compared to just 22 miles for the 2018 model.
Its electric motor also gets a 10 percent boost for an output of 95 horsepower. This means the 2019 Outlander PHEV will have a total performance output of 135 horsepower. With this power boost, its electric top speed has increased to 84 mph, up from 78 mph last year.
Along with its powertrain upgrades, the Outlander PHEV gets some interior improvements, too. Drivers will be able to choose from two new driving modes — sport and snow — to improve control. In addition, leather seats and more climate control vents will increase overall comfort for everyone.
